If you want to see the information about vacant seats in the train, then for this you use IRCTC Rail Connect app and by following some steps you will get to know about the vacant seats in the train like…
- For this, first of all you have to open the IRCTC Rail Connect app in your mobile.
- After this go to Trains option on the home screen.
- Then click on Charts/Vacancy option.
- Now enter the train number, date of journey and boarding station.
- After this click on Get Train Chart.
- The current chart of the train will open in front of you and you will be able to see the vacant seats.
How to identify vacant seats?
After opening the chart, you will see complete seating details. In this you can identify the vacant seat by green colour. Meaning, vacant seats are shown in green colour. Not only this, you will also know which seat will become vacant at which station.
How will you get a vacant seat?
If you find a vacant seat in the chart, then immediately talk to the TTE present in the train. According to the rules, if the seat is found vacant then TTE can give you the seat, but keep one thing in mind that the fare will be charged based on the position of your seat.

How much will the fare be charged?
- If you already have a ticket for that train like RAC or waiting ticket, then TTE can charge you the fare only on the basis of the class seat allotted to you or for the remaining journey.
- Whereas if you are traveling in sleeper or AC coach without ticket or general ticket, then in such a case TTE can charge both fine and fare from you.
- If you are traveling without reserved seat and there is a seat available in the train then you can contact TTE. TTE can charge fare from that station to your station and you can also be fined.
