A new development has come to light on Thursday (May 21, 2026) in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that has been going on for more than four years, where the Ukrainian Army has once again carried out a major drone attack in Russia. Giving information in this regard, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian drone, in a long-range action, has attacked the Syzran oil refinery owned by Rosneft located in the Samara area of Russia.

He shared a post on social media platform X on Thursday (May 21, 2026). In the post, Zelensky said, ‘Ukraine has taken another long-range action against Russian oil refining and we are continuing to move forward in this direction. This time the target of the Ukrainian drone was the Sijaral Oil Refinery, which is more than 800 kilometers away from our border.

Thanking the Ukrainian Army, he said, ‘I thank the warriors of the Unmanned Systems Forces and Special Operations Forces for their accuracy. Glory to Ukraine!’ Zelensky has also shared a video in his X post, in which fire and smoke are seen rising into the sky.
Two people died in Ukrainian drone attack
According to Reuters report, the local governor said that two people were killed in a drone attack on the city of Syzran in the Samara region. However, he did not say whether any infrastructure was damaged in this attack or not.
According to the report, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces said that this attack caused a major fire in the refinery. The annual processing capacity of this refinery is about 70 lakh to 89 lakh tonnes of crude oil. Robert Brovdy, commander of Ukrainian drone forces, said this was the 11th Russian oil refinery targeted by Ukraine during the month of May.
