US Finance Minister Scott Besant said that the Trump administration has set three major conditions for any agreement with Iran. Tehran must hand over its highly enriched uranium, abandon any efforts to build nuclear weapons and restore unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Besant repeatedly refused to confirm that any temporary agreement had been reached. During a briefing at the White House, Besant told the media, ‘Both the teams are in constant talks. President Donald Trump had made his stance clear in the cabinet meeting a day earlier.
Scott Besant said, ‘Iran will have to hand over its highly enriched uranium. They cannot try to make nuclear weapons. Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz should be unhindered. Traffic in the sea should be as free and open as before. He will not make any bad compromise. He will make an excellent deal for the American people. Asked several times whether any temporary agreement had been reached, including extending the ceasefire for 60 days and continuing nuclear talks, Scott Besant refused to provide any details. He said, ‘Everything depends on what the President wants to do. Trying to outdo the President is always a mistake.
Scott Besant argued that the administration’s strategy of military and economic pressure was successful in bringing Iran back to the negotiating table. Scott Besant said, ‘President Trump has done something that no other administration has been able to do. We have convinced the Iranians to negotiate on their nuclear program and perhaps to commit to not having a nuclear program. This has never happened before. He also indicated that the easing of sanctions would be tied to concrete concessions from Iran.
Scott Besant said, ‘No negotiations will be possible until the Strait of Hormuz is opened and the Iranians accept that they will have to hand over highly enriched uranium and that they will no longer have a nuclear program.’ Scott Besant indicated that Washington is ready to continue negotiations, but warned that the administration’s patience is not unlimited. Referring to recent tensions and alleged ceasefire violations, he said the United States is focused on diplomacy.

Scott Besant said that President Donald Trump always gives priority to peace agreements. At the same time, he cautioned that if diplomacy failed, military options could come to the fore again. The Finance Minister said, ‘If President Trump feels that he cannot get a peace agreement, then military action will start.’ Scott Besant also claimed that the decision-making process of the Iranian leadership has been disrupted due to pressure on Tehran. He said, ‘The Iranian government, as it is, rests on three pillars: the elected government, the IRGC and the religious leaders, and there is a problem in establishing communication between these three.’
