Vat Purnima Vrat 2026 Date: Like Vat Savitri, the fast of Vat Purnima is also observed. The importance, worship method and story of both the fasts are similar. The only difference is that Savitra Vrat is observed on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month and Vat Purnima Vrat is observed on the full moon day of Jyeshtha month. Both the fasts are considered important for the husband’s long life and happy married life.
Vat Purnima fast is observed 15 days after Vat Savitri fast. The main reason for this is that in North India, Purnimanta lunar calendar is followed in the states including UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. Whereas in other states the Amanta lunar calendar is followed. For this reason, in North India, Vat Savitri Vrat is observed 15 days before on Jyeshtha Amavasya and in other states, Vat Purnima Vrat is observed on Jyeshtha Purnima. Same rules, story and worship method are followed in both the fasts.

Date of Vat Purnima fast changed
This year Vat Savitri Vrat was observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya on 16 May 2026. In such a situation, Vat Purnima fast was to be observed after 15 days on 31 May 2026. But this year there is a coincidence of Adhikamas or Purushottam month, due to which women will observe Vat Purnima fast not after 15 but after 45 days.
This year Vat Savitri Vrat was observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya on 16 May 2026. In such a situation, Vat Purnima fast was to be observed after 15 days on 30-31 May 2026. Due to lack of correct information, many women had also started preparing for the worship of Vat Purnima Vrat. But according to the Panchang, this year Vat Savitri fast will not be observed on Adhikamas Purnima of 30th or 31st May. The reason for this is that this year there is a coincidence of Adhikamas or Purushottam month, due to which women will observe Vat Purnima fast not after 15 but after 45 days.
When is Vat Purnima Vrat 2026?
Dr. Anish Vyas, director of Pal Balaji Astrology Institute, Jaipur, Jodhpur and a well-known astrologer of the country, said that Vat Purnima fast will not be observed on 30th May but on Jyeshtha Purnima of 29th June. This year Adhikamaas will be from 17th May to 15th June. Adhikamas is considered an additional month in the calendar. Therefore, traditionally and according to beliefs, Vat Purnima fast will be valid only on 29 June 2026.
