- More than 1600 large volcanoes have been discovered on Venus.
- The total number, including smaller volcanoes, may exceed 1 million.
- 90% of the planet’s surface is covered with basaltic lava.
- Some volcanoes may still be active today, geologically alive.
Venus Volcano: When we think of volcanoes, Earth usually comes to mind. But in reality our planet is nowhere near the planet that is at the forefront in this matter. The planet Venus holds the title of having the highest number of volcanoes in the solar system. This planet is often called Earth’s twin. This planet is no less than a wonder.
how many volcanoes on this planet
Scientists have already discovered more than 1600 large volcanoes and volcanic structures on Venus. These are not small shapes but are very large geological formations and are spread over the entire planet.
Total number of volcanoes is more than 10 lakh
When smaller volcanoes are also included, estimates suggest that there may be between one lakh and more than one million volcanoes on Venus. This makes it by far the most volcanic planet in the solar system.
planet made of lava
About 90% of Venus’s surface is made up of basaltic lava and about 65% is covered with volcanic plains. This indicates that volcanic activity has played a major role in shaping entire planets.
too much heat
Venus is also the hottest planet. The average temperature of its surface is about 462 degrees Celsius. This intense heat is enough to melt lead. This makes it impossible for life as we know it to exist and also contributes to its highly volcanic nature.
According to data received from the European Space Agency’s Venus Express mission, some of these volcanoes may still be active today. If this is confirmed, it would mean that Venus is not just a historically volcanic planet. In fact, geologically it is still alive today. Although Venus has the highest number of volcanoes, the largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons, is located on Mars. Jupiter’s moon ‘Io’ has the title of being the celestial body with the most active volcano. About 400 volcanoes keep erupting here continuously.
