Dr Mohit Sharma, internal medicine expert at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, told TOI that nutritional deficiency is more common than people think, especially in cities. According to him, its symptoms are often mild and normal, hence it becomes difficult to identify at the right time.

The first sign is constant feeling of fatigue. If drowsiness persists in the body even after taking complete sleep, then it could be a sign of deficiency of essential elements in the body. This condition gradually starts affecting both working capacity and energy. The second sign is excessive hair fall. It is normal for some hair to fall when the weather changes, but if it continues to happen more frequently, it could be the result of an internal deficiency. If the hair roots do not get proper nutrition, their natural growth cycle starts deteriorating.

These are also signs

The third sign is frequent mouth ulcers or cracked lips. Often people ignore it considering it a minor problem, but it can also be a sign of lack of nutrition in the body. Only external remedies provide relief, but the real cause remains within. The fourth sign is feeling of tingling or numbness in hands and feet. This is a symptom that should not be ignored, because it can be a sign of impact on the nerves. If timely attention is not given, this problem can become serious in future.

The fifth sign is yellowing of the skin and weakening of nails. If the face starts looking pale or the nails start breaking frequently, then this also indicates the lack of essential nutrients in the body.

According to Dr. Mohit Sharma, the good thing is that such deficiency can be detected by a simple blood test. Major problems can be avoided by changing the diet at the right time or taking supplements when needed. Understanding the small signals of the body is the first step to better health.
