The Indian Premier League (IPL) has teams named after many states and cities of the country. Like Mumbai Indians of Maharashtra, Rajasthan Royals of Rajasthan, Sunrisers Hyderabad of Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders of West Bengal, Chennai Super Kings of Tamil Nadu and Punjab Kings of Punjab. There are total 10 teams in IPL, but there is no team from Bihar in it. Meanwhile, suddenly discussion has started regarding Bihar’s IPL team.
Bihar team is getting demand in IPL
Even though there is no team from Bihar in IPL, many players from Bihar are part of many teams. In IPL 2026, Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar is playing for Rajasthan Royals, Ishan Kishan and Saqib Hussain are playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mukesh Kumar is playing for Delhi Capitals. There has been a demand for a Bihar-based team in IPL for a long time. Once again the need for Bihar’s own team in the league has been highlighted on social media.
Bihar’s new Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has supported this demand raised on social media. Samrat Chaudhary has said that the government is working in “mission mode” to strengthen the cricket infrastructure and opportunities for young players in the state. Samrat Chaudhary wrote on his X platform, “Bihar government is working towards the development of cricket with a clear vision and mission. A positive decision will definitely be taken regarding the cricket team of Bihar.”
A stadium with a capacity of 40 thousand spectators is being built in Bihar
The state government is focusing on strengthening sports infrastructure across Bihar. A new international level cricket stadium with a seating capacity of about 40,000 spectators is being built in Rajgir. Rajgir Cricket Stadium is being constructed under the guidance of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is being constructed as per international standards.
Renovation of the historic Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna is also being planned to improve the cricket facilities in the state. Rajgir Cricket Stadium, located in Rajgir Sports Complex, is being considered as a milestone for the sports infrastructure of Bihar and a step to boost the cricketing aspirations of the state.
