Women Reservation Bill 2026: Jagan Mohan Reddy’s reaction if Women Reservation Bill is not passed in Parliament, government or opposition with whom?

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that the non-passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha has neither done justice to South India nor to women. The Constitution Amendment Bill to implement 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Assemblies from the 2029 elections and to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats to 816 could not be passed in the Lower House of Parliament on Friday (April 17, 2027).

Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Reddy wrote on ‘X’ on Friday, ‘Opposition parties should question themselves seriously; What have they achieved? Neither the South nor the women have got justice. He said that the reality is that (through delimitation later) the number of Lok Sabha seats in South India will be reduced in the Parliament. With this statement he was indicating that the opposition party had taken a wrong decision. He expressed regret that the Women’s Reservation Bill has been postponed. He said, ‘If the 2026 census is held, the situation will become worse for the South and it will be further punished for bringing discipline in the matter of family planning.

Congress has exposed itself – VN Madhav

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y S Sharmila said that the illegal law (delimitation) cleverly made in the guise of reservation for women in legislative bodies has failed. Sharmila was quoted as saying in a Congress press release, ‘The nefarious plan of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made under the guise of women’s reservation could not succeed. The conspiracy to legitimize illegal laws by using women as an excuse failed. He alleged that BJP’s tactics behind the mask of empowerment have failed. At the same time, BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit president PVN Madhav targeted Congress for opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill and said that it will have to face its consequences.

“It is unfortunate that Congress MPs voted against the Women’s Reservation Bill introduced in Parliament and the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies,” Madhav was quoted as saying in a BJP press release. He claimed that Congress has exposed itself by opposing this bill.
