Indian women’s cricket team defeated Netherlands by 95 runs in its second match of the Women’s T20 World Cup here on Wednesday, thanks to the brilliant performance of Smriti Mandhana (74 runs), Shefali Verma (55 runs, three wickets for 20 runs) and bowlers and reached the top of Group One.
After being invited to bat, Mandhana (11 fours and one six in 47 balls) and Shefali (38 balls, 10 fours) made a partnership of 115 runs for the first wicket, demolishing the weak bowling attack of Netherlands. With this, the Indian team managed to make the biggest score in World Cup history by scoring 209 runs for five wickets.
In reply, Netherlands team collapsed for 114 runs in 17.3 overs. This was his second consecutive defeat. For that, captain Babette De Leede was the top scorer by scoring 28 runs in 27 balls.
The Netherlands batsmen, who lost to Bangladesh in the first match, played cautiously in the beginning. But then due to continuous loss of wickets, they could not make any important partnership.
None of the batsmen of the team could stand against the Indian bowlers. The team lost the last seven wickets in 23 balls.

Shri Charani was the best among the Indian bowlers, taking four wickets for 19 runs in four overs.
Shefali Verma played an important role in wrapping up the Netherlands’ innings with her all-round game. After scoring a half-century, he took three wickets for 20 runs in 3.2 overs. In this way, she became the third player after Hayley Mathews and Sune Luus to take a half-century and three wickets in a Women’s T20 World Cup match.
Nandani Sharma took two wickets for 22 runs in three overs while experienced spinner Deepti Sharma got one wicket.
However, Shreyanka Patil could not bowl due to twisting her ankle after bowling a ball.
Earlier, Mandhana played her second consecutive half-century while Shefali scored her first half-century in the tournament.
Wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh remained unbeaten on 20 runs and Deepti Sharma remained unbeaten on 10 runs. Apart from him, Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 19 runs.
The Indian team, which had won over Pakistan in the last match, made two changes and included Nandini Sharma in the final eleven in place of Arundhati Reddy and Yastika Bhatia in place of Bharati Phulmali.
During the powerplay, Shefali was more aggressive than her senior Mandhana, due to which India scored 59 runs during this period.
The Netherlands bowler was not able to control her line and length, of which Shefali took full advantage. Her six hit over extra cover off fast bowler Isabel Voning was the center of attraction in the first six overs.
Due to Shefali’s aggressive game, Netherlands captain Babette de Leede had to make repeated changes in bowling.
Mirthe van den Raad bowled six wide balls in the sixth over.
Mandhana started playing openly after the powerplay. He stepped forward and played shots against both spinners and fast bowlers. India’s star opening batsman hit four boundaries on four consecutive balls in the 15th over of Silver Stars.
After the dismissal of the openers, Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur could not finish the inning brilliantly.
However, thanks to the short but effective innings of Richa (20 not out in eight balls) and Deepti Sharma (10 not out in two balls), India was successful in making its highest score in World Cup history.
