The condition of Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has been in power in West Bengal for the last 15 years, is not very good at the moment. In the recently held assembly elections in the state, TMC suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of Shubhendu Adhikari and after losing the elections, there has been a big split in the party and this split has been seen from the state to the central level. Many TMC MLAs and MPs have parted ways with the party and many top leaders of the party have left TMC and joined BJP.
Amidst the rift in TMC, the news of party MP Mahua Moitra’s separation and joining BJP was revealed, for which TMC MP Mahua Moitra has recently given a big reaction. Making a harsh comment, she said, cut off my head, but I will still not go to join BJP.
There is disintegration in the party, the party has not collapsed – Moitra
Responding to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs, MPs and many other leaders leaving the party, Moitra said, ‘This can be called a break in Trinamool Congress, not the fall of the party. TMC is the same party for which 2.6 crore people of Bengal voted in the assembly elections held a month ago. We had received 41 percent support in the elections from the people of Bengal. If you look at it this way, it is equal to half the population of Denmark.
He said, ‘Now the question is how many people have separated themselves from the party since then (since the elections), apart from 20 MPs, 65 MLAs, let’s say 10 mayors and some 100 other people are included. That means in total about 200-250 people have resigned from the party and separated themselves.
No amount of money can buy me – Moitra
TMC MP Mahua Moitra further said, ‘Those who left TMC have joined BJP either out of greed for money, or out of fear of the stick, but they cannot buy me by paying any amount of money. You can either survive or sell. You cut my head, I will sacrifice myself, but I will not join BJP.
