Asian Cup 2025: A month has passed since the final of Asia Cup 2025 ended, but its controversies are still in the headlines. Actually, the trophy has not been returned to India yet after winning the Asia Cup. This strange situation has increased the tension between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Now BCCI has given a clear indication that if the trophy is not received soon, then the matter will reach the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Mohsin Naqvi and the root of the trophy controversy
The controversy started after the Asia Cup final, when India won the title by defeating Pakistan. In the presentation ceremony organized after the match, the Indian team had refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.
Actually, Naqvi is also the Home Minister of Pakistan. Due to the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, Team India had decided not to accept the trophy from them. After this incident, an official removed the trophy from the stage and took it out of the field and since then this trophy controversy is in the news.
BCCI’s ultimatum!
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, while speaking to ANI on the issue, said, “We had formally written a letter to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) ten days ago, requesting to hand over the trophy to India, but till now we have not received any response. If the trophy is not received by November 3, we will raise the issue in the ICC meeting to be held in Dubai on November 4.”
Saikia expressed hope that ICC will take a fair decision in this matter and will provide justice to India.
This is how India celebrated without the trophy
Even though the real trophy did not come into the hands of Team India, the players won the hearts of the fans with their creative celebration style. Captain Suryakumar Yadav celebrated with the team by lifting an imaginary trophy and the video went viral on social media.
Will ICC resolve the dispute?
Now everyone’s eyes are on the ICC meeting to be held on November 4. If BCCI’s stand is accepted, it is possible that the Asia Cup trophy may soon be handed over to India, but if the matter drags on further, it may become the biggest controversy in cricket politics.
