Today’s children are tomorrow’s future. In order to provide nutrition along with education to the children of poor and deprived sections, the government has started mid-day meal scheme in many government schools. But a shocking incident has come to light from a school, where children were served mid-day meal on newspaper.
The administration has taken immediate action after a video surfaced of children being served mid-day meal on newspaper at Hullapur Government Primary School in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh. Following the criticism, new steel plates were provided to the school and action has been taken against the officials responsible. Many leaders including Rahul Gandhi condemned this incident. The chemicals present in the ink used in newspapers which are used for reading are considered harmful for health.
Administration action and inspection
BJP leader and former Minister of State Ramniwas Rawat and SDM Abhishek Mishra visited Hullapur School located in Vijaypur block on 8 November. Both the officers sat with the students and had food served in steel plates. In the new video shared on social media, the school premises were seen decorated and children were seen eating food in clean plates. Mishra said that the quality of food and the arrangement for serving it was found to be fine.
strict action against those responsible
SDM Abhishek Mishra said that after investigating the incident, the contract of the self-help group, which was responsible for preparing the food, has been cancelled. According to PTI, now this responsibility has been handed over to the school management committee. School in-charge Bhogiram Dhakad has been suspended, while notices have been issued to two other employees. Mishra said that the administration will keep an eye on this matter so that such an incident does not happen again in future.
Rahul Gandhi’s sharp attack
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav over this incident. He said that it is a matter of shame that the children who are called the future of India are forced to eat food on newspaper. Rahul wrote on ‘X’ that these are the same innocent children on whose dreams the future of the country depends, but they do not even get a plate of respect. This incident raises serious questions on the respect of children and government systems in the country.
