Crores of people in India consume tea or coffee early in the morning. Not only this, drinking tea or coffee several times a day, whether in office or home or anywhere else, has become necessary for us. But here it is not about elders or adult people that how often we should drink tea or coffee or why we should not drink it. Our issue is the consumption of tea or coffee by small children.

As we know, tea and coffee are consumed in large quantities in India. Often, when children’s parents or other family members drink tea or coffee in front of the children, the children also start insisting on drinking tea or coffee after seeing them and the parents also give it to them. Even many children are given tea or coffee by their family members on a daily basis and it also becomes a part of their diet. But do you know what effect drinking tea or coffee has on the health of children below 10 years of age?

Doctor warns tea and coffee are harmful for children

Dr. Syed Mujahid Hussain, a pediatrician trained at MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, has told in his Instagram video that children drinking tea or coffee is very harmful for their health. Dr. Syed Mujahid Hussain has explained in detail in his video how tea and coffee are harmful for children.

Why does caffeine affect children more than adults?

Often people think that caffeine affects only adults, but the truth is that it has a greater effect on children. The caffeine present in tea or coffee can disturb the sleeping habits of children. According to doctors, even a small amount of caffeine can reduce both the depth and duration of sleep in children.

When children do not get enough sleep, it affects their physical growth, immunity and behavior.

How does the tannin present in tea harm children?

According to Dr. Syed Mujahid Hussain, tea contains an element called tannin, which hinders the absorption of nutrients in the body of children. Tannins stick to iron, due to which iron does not reach the body properly during digestion. Due to this, children have to face iron deficiency and later on this can cause the dangerous disease anemia.

Effect on children’s brain and nervous system

Caffeine and tea also have a deep impact on the brain of children. Its biggest impact is on the nervous system of children. Due to this, the child may become irritable and problems like lack of interest in studies may arise.

Damage to teeth due to sugary tea and coffee

According to doctors, tea and coffee are not good for small children. When sugar is added to these, it increases the risk of children getting infected with teeth, yellowing or blackening of teeth and weakening of teeth at an early age.

Doctors say that most children drink sweetened tea or coffee, due to which they get more useless calories than the body needs. This neither benefits health nor gives strength. On the contrary, teeth and overall health are harmed.
