This letter of Mamdani was shared by Khalid’s associate Banojyotsna Lahiri on the social media platform ‘X’. The caption accompanying the photo of Mamdani’s letter to Khalid read, “When prisons try to isolate people, your words become power and spread.”

This letter is hand written and it also has the signature of New York Mayor Mamdani. In this letter he wrote, “Dear Omar, I often remember your words about not letting bitterness dominate you. Nice to meet your parents. We are all thinking about you only.
Meanwhile, a group of American lawmakers has written a letter to Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra demanding bail for Omar Khalid and ensuring a fair and timely trial as per international law.
