If a country takes control over the border or territory of another country or gains authority over the land, then a war-like situation arises between the two countries. But do you know that there is such a unique island in the world, which remains under the control of another country for 6 months and for the remaining 6 months that island is ruled by another country. It sounds strange to hear how a country divides its island among itself for 6-6 months, but it is absolutely true. The name of this island is “Fangant Island”, where the citizenship of the residents keeps changing every 6 months.

Limit changing every 6 months

Fangent Island is one of the most unique citizenship islands in the world, where the citizenship of the citizens residing there changes after an interval of every 6 months. Actually, this island is located right in the middle of western countries like France and Spain and after every 6 months, these two countries take turns to rule this island. That is, from 1 February to 31 July, this island remains under the control of Spain and the citizens there become residents or citizens of Spain. Exactly 6 months later, from 1 August to 31 January, this island is ruled by France and the citizens living here become residents of France. This is a unique arrangement in itself and there is no military conflict of any kind between these two countries during the exchange every 6 months.

350 years old agreement

The tradition of exchange and governance of “Fangant Island” between Spain and France every 6 months has been going on for about 350 years, which reflects mutual peace and brotherhood between the two countries. This agreement between the two countries was made in the year 1659, under which it was decided that this island would be ruled by both the countries for 6 months each. This means that in a year there will be 6 months of Spain’s rule and the remaining 6 months of France’s rule. This agreement is known as the Pyrenees Treaty.

Island in danger of extinction

The area of the island with this unique settlement is quite small. It is a small island, whose length is about 200 meters and width is about 40 meters. But this island is gradually sinking into the river, due to which its existence is in danger. This situation remains a matter of great concern for both Spain and France.
