The organization of 2026 T20 World Cup will start from 7th February next month. The World Cup will be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka and its final will be held on March 8. India will enter the field as the defending champions, which has match-winning players like Abhishek Sharma to Jasprit Bumrah. But former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes that not Abhishek Sharma or Jasprit Bumrah, but captain Suryakumar Yadav will prove to be the biggest game changer for India in the T20 World Cup.

Team India’s biggest game changer – Shoaib Akhtar

Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav is struggling with poor form. In the 19 T20 innings played in the year 2025, he could score only 218 runs. Last year his average was only 13.63. Despite this, Shoaib Akhtar believes that Suryakumar Yadav will emerge as the biggest star of Team India in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Shoaib Akhtar told in a conversation with PTV Sports that there is no dearth of talent in the Indian team and it seems to be the biggest contender to win the T20 World Cup. Akhtar further said that if Team India has to win the World Cup, then captain Suryakumar Yadav will definitely have to score runs, which according to the Pakistani veteran bowler can prove to be a big game changer for Team India. Akhtar clearly said that if India wants to become world champion, then the captain will have to score runs at any cost.

Good captain, but personal performance dropped

Suryakumar Yadav has not lost a single series after becoming the Indian T20 captain. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar, India has so far registered 28 wins in 38 T20 matches and lost only 6 matches. Surya’s win percentage as captain is 80.55. But after becoming the captain, the personal performance of Suryakumar Yadav has declined.
