Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday that if anything good or bad happens in India, Hindus will be asked about it because India is not just the name of a geographical region but the character of the country.

Bhagwat said Hindu society has traditionally been inclusive and accepting of all, embracing diversity in customs, dress, food, language, caste and sub-caste and not allowing these differences to become a cause of conflict. He said these things in the ‘Hindu Conference’ organized at Gangapur in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Central Maharashtra.

The RSS chief said, ‘Those who believe in integration and harmonious co-existence represent the true character of Hindu society and the country. This tradition has been preserved for centuries despite invasions and destruction. Such people are called Hindus and their land is called India.

He said that if people try to be good, determined and honest, the country will also display these qualities on the global stage. The RSS chief said that the world expects something from India and if it has enough power and influence, the country will be able to make a meaningful contribution.

Power includes not just armed forces but also moral values: RSS Chief

Bhagwat said that power includes not only armed forces but also intelligence, principles and moral values.

Emphasizing on self-reliance and use of local products, Bhagwat said, ‘We should buy local goods. Whatever cannot be made here can be purchased from other countries. Indian policy makers are doing international business, but not under anyone’s pressure. We have chosen the path of self-reliance and we should follow this path.

He said, ‘We should not worry about creating employment abroad, that is for them to do. When we talk about globalization, they expect a global market, we expect a global family.

Bhagwat appealed for unity among Hindus

Bhagwat called for unity among Hindus and said this should not be the aim of just the RSS but the aim of all members of the community.

He said, ‘We should make Hindu friends regardless of caste, sect, language or occupation. This will establish equality. The union will take the initiative, but the community will have to lead it.

He said, ‘Lord Ram also tried to avoid war by talking to Ravana, but later took up arms. We should also fight against injustice step by step.

Speaking at the youth conference organized to commemorate the centenary of RSS, Bhagwat appealed to the youth not to go abroad to acquire knowledge and skills, but to use it for the development of India. He said, ‘The contribution of youth is very important in the progress and future building of the country.’

Bhagwat said, ‘The Sangh neither opposes anyone nor is in competition with anyone. Its only objective is to build a strong and harmonious society.
