Music composer AR Rahman remains a part of the headlines these days. Recently, he had made such a comment, after which he is in the midst of controversies. He has said in an interview that people’s taste in music is changing due to which he is getting less work. He has also described Vicky Kaushal’s film Chhaava as divisive. After which he is being trolled a lot on social media. Many big Bollywood stars have also scolded him. Amidst all this, director Imtiaz Ali has come out in support of AR Rahman.
Before Imtiaz Ali, Varun Grover has also supported AR Rahman. Imtiaz Ali and AR Rahman have worked together. Now in the interview given to India Today, Imtiaz has supported AR Rahman.
Imtiaz Ali supported
Imtiaz Ali said- ‘No, I do not think there is any communal discrimination in the film industry. I have been here for a long time, and I have never seen anything like this and AR Rahman is one of the most talented people I have met in the film industry. I really don’t believe he made all the comments that are being attributed to him, or maybe he was misunderstood. In fact, I know that he did not say exactly what is being understood. Also, I do not remember a single incident where there was any communal discrimination or hostility.
Javed Akhtar reacted
Javed Akhtar had said in a special conversation with IANS – ‘I never felt like this. I live in Mumbai, meet all the people. People respect me a lot. Perhaps people would understand that AR Rahman is more busy in the West, devotes more time to shows, so whether he will come to us or not, Rahman is such a great personality that even small producers may feel hesitant in going to him.
Shaan had said this
Singer Shaan said- ‘Talking about not getting work, I am standing right here in front of you. I have sung so much over the years, yet sometimes I don’t get work. But I don’t take it personally, because it’s a personal matter; Everyone has their own thinking and preferences… Even if there is such a problem, I don’t think there is any communal or minority aspect in music.
Taslima Nasreen criticized
Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has criticized AR Rahman for his statement. He said-‘Shahrukh Khan is still the king of Bollywood. Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi are all superstars. Famous and rich people do not face any problems, no matter what their religion, caste or community is. Hindus, Muslims, Christians, atheists and believers all respect AR Rahman with equal respect. It is not proper to feel pity on them.
AR Rahman gave clarification
AR Rahman had said in an interview given to BBC- Perhaps there has been a change of power in the last 8 years and those are not constructive. They are taking decisions. Maybe it was a communal thing but no one said it in front of me. Yes, some things were heard. Like you were booked but another music company funded the film and brought their own musicians. I say ok I will rest. Controversy broke out after this statement of Rahman. Now he has also clarified his statement by sharing the video.
He shared a video and said in it- ‘I understand that intentions can sometimes be misunderstood, but my aim has always been to uplift, respect and serve through music. I never wished to hurt anyone and I hope my sincerity will be felt.
