US-Iran Tension: Tension between America and Iran is continuously increasing. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a big military force is moving towards Iran. Although he clarified that America has no desire to take military action, but Washington is completely alert about the situation in the region.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said that America has deployed a huge naval fleet in the region, but expressed hope that there will be no need to use it. He said, “We have a large flotilla going in that direction. Let’s see what happens next. There is a large force moving towards Iran. I don’t want anything to happen, but we are keeping a very close eye on them.”
‘Iran stops plan to hang protesters’
The US President once again claimed that due to pressure from Washington, Iran canceled the alleged plan to hang hundreds of protesters. Trump said, “I stopped 837 executions on Thursday. They all would have been killed. Everyone was supposed to be hanged.” He termed these alleged hangings as “thousand-year-old barbarity.”
He said those facing execution were mostly young men and claimed that Tehran backed down after receiving stern warnings. According to Trump, “I said that if you hang these people, you will get a response like never before. It will look like peanuts compared to the action taken on our nuclear program.” Trump further said that the execution plan was canceled just one hour before it was to be implemented.
American military gathering increased in the Middle East
According to US officials, an aircraft carrier strike group and other military resources are scheduled to reach the Middle East in the coming days. According to news agency Reuters, many warships have already departed from the Asia-Pacific region. These include the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, several destroyers, warships and fighter aircraft. An American official said that deployment of additional air defense systems is also being considered.
Warning given on nuclear program
Trump had earlier said that he hoped the US would not have to take any further military action, but also warned that Washington would respond if Iran restarted its nuclear program. In an interview in Davos, he said, “They can’t keep the nuclear tax. If they did, the same thing would happen again.”
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations’ nuclear monitoring body, has also expressed concern. The agency has not verified Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile for at least seven months, despite guidelines that require monthly inspections.
