Amidst the Russian attacks, Ukraine has raised questions on the advisory issued for Indian citizens stranded in the Black Sea. Kiev said that its Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiha had requested to speak to Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar over phone regarding security in the Black Sea, but no response has been received so far. Kiev has made this allegation at a time when 13 Indian sailors are stranded on the MV AMIR1 ship at Chornomorsk port in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Embassy cited advisories issued by India’s Directorate General of Shipping for the Strait of Hormuz on July 15 and the Black Sea on July 23. In the advisory issued on July 15 for the Strait of Hormuz, shipping companies were instructed to avoid deploying Indian sailors on ships passing through the Strait until further orders. Whereas no such strict ban has been imposed in the Black Sea advisory issued on July 23, there are continuous drone and missile attacks by Russia.

What did the Ukrainian Embassy say?

The Ukrainian Embassy objected to the comparison, saying, ‘Comparing these two advisories raises serious questions about whether the suggested measures for the Black Sea are commensurate with the risks present there. Especially when there are continuous Russian attacks on civilian ships, and Indian citizens are losing their lives in them.

Not only this, Kiev raised the question in its statement, ‘Will New Delhi once again summon Russia’s representative, as it did after an earlier deadly attack involving Indian marines.’

Recently 2 Indian citizens died

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine on Wednesday said it is closely monitoring the security situation of 13 Indian sailors aboard a commercial vessel off the Black Sea coast. There were reports that the ship is in constant danger of drone and missile attacks. Earlier on July 25, a commercial vessel named MV AGN Ragnar was attacked at Odessa port in Ukraine. At that time there were four Indian crew members on board the ship. Two of these Indian sailors are still missing and India is conducting a search operation in collaboration with Ukrainian authorities.
