In Telangana’s Rangareddy district, a drunk driver, Sreekar, dragged SI Madhu on the bonnet of his car for about 500 meters in an attempt to avoid drunk driving checking, causing minor injuries to the police officer. At the same time, the car driver hit a bike at high speed, due to which the arm of the woman Divya who was riding on it was broken and Venkat Reddy along with her one year old grandson also got injured.
The incident took place on Sunday (January 25, 2026) evening near Yacharam bus stand in Rangareddy district, where the police were doing regular checking to prevent road accidents, but Sreekar ignored the signal and tried to run away, leading to the accident.
Police signaled to stop, but the car did not stop
The incident occurred when SI Madhu of Ibrahimpatnam police station along with his team was checking vehicles on Ambedkar Chowrasta. Then a speeding car came, which was signaled to stop, but the car driver Shrikar, a resident of Koheda, who was under the influence of alcohol, tried to drive away the car instead of stopping it. When this happened, SI Madhu jumped on the bonnet to stop the car, but Shrikar did not reduce the speed and dragged the officer.
According to eyewitnesses, this scene was very scary. People were shouting, but the car did not stop. After about 500 meters, after crossing Yacharam town, the car slowed down a bit and SI Madhu jumped out and escaped. He suffered minor injuries, but survived.
Police arrested two people in the car
Meanwhile, the running car hit a bike hard. Venkat Reddy, a resident of Yacharam, was traveling on the bike with his daughter-in-law Divya and one-year-old grandson. Due to the collision, he fell on the road. Due to this, Divya’s arm was broken, while Venkat Reddy and the child suffered minor injuries. Everyone was immediately taken to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Nitin, a resident of Hydernagar, was also in the car with Shrikar. Police stopped the car near Khanapur and arrested both of them. Breath analyzer test confirmed Srikar’s drinking. Yacharam police have registered a case on charges of negligent driving, causing hurt and obstructing government work. Investigation is ongoing.
Many accidents have occurred in the last several years due to drunk drivers.
This incident is a reminder of the increasing drunk driving cases in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. Despite heavy fines, counseling and strict checking by the police, such accidents are not stopping. In the last years, there have been hundreds of deaths due to drunk drivers in Telangana, which is a big challenge for road safety. This incident has created anger among the local people, as it not only put the lives of the police at risk, but also caused pain to an ordinary family. The accused was caught due to the vigilance of the police, but public awareness and strict laws are needed to stop such incidents.
