- Flexibility and digital education will be promoted in higher education.
The new National Education Policy 2020 has been implemented to make India’s education system according to modern and future needs. The objective of this policy is not to limit students only to books, but also to prepare them for skills, creative thinking and employment. That is why many important changes related to school education, higher education and teacher training have been made in this policy.
What is the main objective of education?
The focus of the new education policy is on the overall development of students. Now the purpose of education is not only to get good marks, but also to develop the ability of children to think, understand and learn new things. Through this, an attempt has been made to link education with employment and real life needs.
What is 5+3+3+4 model?
In NEP 2020, 5+3+3+4 education structure has been implemented in place of the old 10+2 system. This model has been prepared keeping in mind the age and learning ability of children. In this, emphasis has been laid on strengthening the basic education of children from the early years so that further studies can become easier.
Emphasis on understanding rather than memorization
In the new policy, students will not be asked to memorize books only. Now the method of study will be such that children understand the subject, ask questions and can use their knowledge in real life. This will improve their thinking and problem solving abilities.
Will get freedom in choosing the subject
Now students will not have to be limited to only Science, Commerce or Arts. They will be able to choose different subjects as per their interest. This will provide more convenience to the students in deciding the direction of their career.
Skill education will start from class 6
Under the new education policy, students will be given skill based education from class six onwards. They will be linked to various practical tasks and training programs so that they can acquire necessary information related to employment along with studies.

There will be changes in the examination system
Under NEP 2020, work is being done to make the examinations less stressful. Importance will be given to the understanding and learning ability of the students. This will reduce the exam pressure and make studies more effective.
Promotion of studies in mother tongue
In the new policy, emphasis has been laid on imparting education in mother tongue or local language in the initial classes. It is believed that children are able to understand studies in their own language faster and better, which increases their learning ability.
Digital education is getting a boost
In view of the increasing use of technology, special attention has also been given to digital education. The aim has been to provide students the facility of education anywhere and anytime through online platforms and digital resources.
Flexibility will be available in higher education
Under the new education policy, studies in colleges and universities have been made more flexible. If a student leaves studies midway, he can get the benefit of certificate or diploma as per his studies. This will make it easier for students to resume studies.
Changes in the rules for becoming a teacher
The 4-year integrated B.Ed course is being developed as a key qualification to become a future teacher. Along with this, teachers will also be given regular training and information about new teaching techniques so that they can give better education to the students. In the new education policy, the teacher is not considered only as a person who teaches. Now teachers will play the role of guide and mentor of the students, due to which the educational and personal development of the children will be better.
Benefits of new education policy
This policy is expected to make education more flexible, employment-oriented and skill-based. This will increase the employability of students, reduce the number of dropouts and make the Indian education system stronger at the global level. Although the new education policy is being considered a major reform in the education sector, its successful implementation will require better resources, trained teachers and a strong digital system. Lack of internet and technical facilities still remains a big challenge, especially in rural areas.
