West Indies has announced its 15-member squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. This time Shay Hope will be seen captaining this former world champion team. West Indies’ World Cup squad is full of players who have done well in franchise cricket.
The West Indies team recently played a T20 series against Afghanistan, but most of the players from that series did not get a place in the World Cup squad. Among the batsmen, only Johnson Charles, Shimron Hetmyer and Brendon King have been able to secure their place in the squad.
West Indies squad for T20 World Cup: Shai Hope (captain), Shimron Hetmyer, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Moti, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd.
Jason Holder, Shamar Joseph, Matthew Ford and Jaden Seales have been included in the pace attack of the West Indies team. Akil Hossain, Roston Chase and Gudakesh Moti will look after the spin department. Evin Lewis and Alzarri Joseph have not got a place in the team. Both these players have been continuously struggling with injuries.
West Indies has been a two-time T20 World Champion team. It has got a place in Group D along with England, Scotland, Nepal and Italy. West Indies’ first match will be with Scotland on 7 February. Scotland, which has replaced Bangladesh in the World Cup. West Indies team last became world champion in 2016.
