Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (January 26, 2026) alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi insulted the Northeast and also showed disrespect towards President Draupadi Murmu. This statement has come from BJP because Rahul Gandhi did not wear the Assamese Gamosa given to all the guests in the at-home program organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
BJP spokesperson hit back at Congress
This incident came to light when a section of the media claimed that all the guests, except Gandhi, were wearing a patta called Gamosa, which was presented to him at the event.
Citing some news, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said in a post on social media platform X, ‘Shameful! Rahul Gandhi insulted the North-East and also disrespected the Honorable President.
Congress raised the issue of insulting Rahul and Kharge
Earlier, the Congress accused the BJP-led central government of insulting opposition leaders in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Congress said that on the path of duty, he was made to sit in the third row during the program organized on Republic Day. Many Congress leaders raised questions over the violation of protocol and behavior by sharing pictures of their leaders being made to sit in the back rows during the function.
Countering this, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused the Congress of putting family and position above the public along with the authority and ego of the Gandhi family.
Rahul considers family system above the constitutional system – Poonawala
BJP spokesperson said in the post, ‘They consider the family system above the constitutional system. The seating arrangement is as per the prescribed protocol. Senior cabinet ministers were also seen around or behind Rahul Gandhi, but no one made it an issue.
Poonawala asked, ‘Rahul thinks he is the master of India? By the way, why doesn’t he come to important events? Where was he at the swearing-in ceremony of the Vice President? In the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Justice? In the Independence Day program? At the same time, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also accused Congress of politicizing the seating arrangement on Republic Day and called Gandhi a hypocritical politician.
