Late Ajit Pawar, former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was keen to unite both the factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and his wish was soon going to be fulfilled. This claim has been made by his close associate Kiran Gujar.
Kiran Gujar, who was associated with Ajit Pawar since the mid-1980s, said that Pawar had discussed this topic in detail with him just 5 days before the plane crash. According to Gujar, Ajit Pawar was very excited about the merger of both the factions.
Gujar said, “He was very keen on the merger of the two factions. He told me five days ago that the process has been completed and the merger is going to happen in the next few days.” According to him, Ajit Pawar seemed completely confident about this issue and considered it in the interest of the party and the state.
Positive conversation with Sharad Pawar
Kiran Gujar told that Ajit Pawar was having positive talks with Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule and other leaders. There were indications that Sharad Pawar may also support this step.
Electoral alliance raised hopes
In the recently held municipal elections, NCP and NCP (Sharad Pawar) contested together in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Apart from this, it was also decided to maintain the alliance for the Zilla Parishad elections to be held next month. This further increased the closeness between the two groups.
Roadmap ready for the future
According to Gujar, Ajit Pawar had a clear roadmap for the future of the United Nationalist Congress Party to be formed after the merger. He believed that only by uniting can work be done effectively for the betterment of Baramati and entire Maharashtra.

Kiran Gujar lamented, “Many positive possibilities were emerging, but this tragedy took away Ajit Dada from us. Now after his death, it has become even more imperative that both the groups come together and work for the betterment of Baramati and the state.”
