In Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, the convoy of Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh was stopped on the road by his own party’s Charkhari MLA Brij Bhushan Rajput. Amidst protests, sloganeering and pushing and shoving, the minister had to get down from the car and give clarification. This incident took place on the streets of Mahoba city when the minister was returning from the ABVP program and the issue was regarding complaints related to Jal Jeevan Mission.

The conflict within power was seen on the streets

As soon as Cabinet Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, who was on Mahoba tour on January 30, came out of the venue, BJP MLA Brij Bhushan Rajput parked a convoy with his supporters in front. The atmosphere became tense between about 50 village heads, hundreds of workers and sloganeering. There was a heated argument between the police and the MLA’s supporters, which reached a scuffle.

The MLA alleged that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, roads in his area were dug, but neither water reached nor roads were built. On complaints, officials put up fake disposal reports. To handle the situation, the minister made the MLA sit in his own car and talked to him and later both of them reached the Collectorate, where the discussion went on for about an hour in a closed room.

Who is Brij Bhushan Rajput?

Brij Bhushan Rajput, who stopped the minister’s convoy in Mahoba, is not a new or inexperienced leader. He has inherited political conflict. His father Ganga Charan Rajput was known for controversies and defection in UP politics. Ganga Charan Rajput, who was MP from Hamirpur three times, had traveled through Janata Dal, BJP, Congress and BSP.

The domineering style of Ganga Charan, who came out of student politics, was famous in the area, even the story of him slapping a CO once became famous. He organized many movements on Bundelkhand state, electricity-water and OBC issues. At the time of his return from BSP to BJP in 2015, Brij Bhushan Rajput also came with him and at that time Swatantra Dev Singh himself was in charge of BJP’s membership campaign.

Pistol incident of 2004 and today son on father’s path

On May 18, 2004, after the UPA victory, there was talk of Sonia Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister and she rejected the post, a high-voltage drama took place outside the Congress office in Delhi. Ganga Charan Rajput climbed on the roof of the car, brandished a pistol and pointed it at his own temple, threatening to shoot himself if Sonia Gandhi did not become PM. The whole country saw this scene in front of the cameras.

The irony was that the leader who seemed ready to sacrifice his life for Sonia Gandhi returned to BJP after a few years. Today, a glimpse of the same political attitude is visible in his son Brijbhushan Rajput. Despite being educated and having a PhD degree, his message is clear – if work is not done there will be chaos. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also took a dig at the incident and said that the BJP MLA has taken his own minister hostage, which shows that power has now derailed.
