The Election Commission conducts a particularly thorough revision of the voter list from time to time, so that no eligible citizen is left out and wrong names are removed. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has taken a big and relief decision regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign going on in Uttar Pradesh. One month additional time has now been given for those whose names have not yet been added to the voter list, or whose name, age, address or other details are incorrect.

Now you can apply till 6th March

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa informed in a press conference at Lok Bhawan in Lucknow that now voters can register their claims and objections till March 6, 2026. Earlier its last date was 6 February, which has now been extended. This means that new voters can get their names added by filling Form 6. Form 7 can be filled to remove wrong or duplicate name. Form 8 can be used for correction in name, age, address or other information.

SIR process started from 27th October

CEO Navdeep Rinwa said that this special revision campaign in Uttar Pradesh started from October 27. Under this, voter counting was done door-to-door from November 4 to January 6. The draft voter list was released on 6 January. After this, claims and objections were taken from 6 January to 6 February, but in view of the large number of applications received and the demand of political parties, the time limit was extended by one month.

Now the final voter list will come on April 10

According to the new program of the Election Commission, applications will be taken till March 6. All claims and objections will be resolved by March 27 and the final voter list of Uttar Pradesh will be published on April 10.

Lakhs of applications, crores of notices

According to the data released by the Election Department, 82,684 Form-7 were filled for deletion of names, about 37.8 lakh Form-6 were submitted for adding names, so far 1,076 applications have been received under Form 6A for migrant voters. Apart from this, notices are to be sent to a total of 3.26 crore voters. Till now 2.37 crore notices have been issued. 86.27 lakh notices have reached the voters. Hearing of about 30 lakh cases has been completed.

Mistake in many names and notice issued

The Election Department said that there are about 14 lakh voters whose names are in the draft list, but their physical mapping could not be done. There are 22 lakh voters whose mapping has been done, but some mistakes were found in the details. In all such cases, notices are being sent to the concerned voters, so that decisions can be taken on the basis of correct information. For the convenience of voters, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be available at polling stations from 10 am to 12 noon on all working days. Voters can meet them directly and get help in filling the form and getting information. At the same time, the Election Commission admitted that still many women and young voters between 18 to 21 years have not been able to be included in the voter list. An appeal has been made to all such citizens to come forward and apply in time.
