Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that America wants a peace agreement to be reached by the month of June regarding the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. He said this while talking to journalists on Friday (6 February 2026). According to Zelensky, America has suggested setting a clear deadline for talks.
According to ANI, Zelensky told that America says that it wants to complete all the necessary negotiations by June. He also said that if an agreement is not reached on time, America can put pressure on both the countries. This is an indication that the Trump administration wants to take the peace process forward rapidly. Recently, talks were held between Ukraine, Russia and America in Abu Dhabi under the mediation of America, but no consensus could be reached on any major issue. Important issues like land distribution and security guarantees are still entangled.
Russia wants control over eastern Donbas area
Russia still wants control over Ukraine’s eastern Donbass region, which Ukraine has clearly rejected. Apart from this, no understanding has been reached between the two countries regarding the Zaporozhye nuclear plant, which is currently under Russia’s control. Zelensky also said that America has proposed to hold the next round of talks in America. There is a possibility that this meeting may be held in Miami next week. Ukraine has confirmed its participation in this meeting.
Many people died in Russian drone attack
Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Zelensky said that due to these attacks, nuclear power plants have had to reduce production and there has been a severe electricity shortage in the country during winter. America has once again suggested a ceasefire to stop attacks on energy targets. Ukraine has agreed to this, but no response has come from Russia yet. On Saturday, a bus carrying mine workers was targeted in the Pavlohrad area of Ukraine in a Russian drone attack. 15 people died and 7 people were injured in this attack. After the attack, the bus caught fire, which was extinguished by fire brigade personnel.
