Saudi Arabia has taken such a unique and shocking decision. This Gulf country has now announced to issue official passports for camels also.
In Saudi Arabia, camels are not just an animal, but they are considered an important part of the culture, tradition and economy there. Keeping this importance in mind, the government has taken this step, so that the entire sector related to camels can be organized and modernized in a better way. This decision is part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan, which aims to modernize the country’s economy and connect traditional sectors with technology.
Who announced?
This new initiative was formally announced by Mansour Almushtaiti, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. He told that the government has officially launched the Camel Passport System in the country. According to him, with the help of this passport, complete information related to the identity, ownership rights and health of each camel can be recorded in a single document. This will make the care of camels easier and will also bring transparency in their business.
Camel passport picture also surfaced
The ministry has also shared the picture of the camel passport on its official social media account. This passport is green in color, on which the national emblem of Saudi Arabia is depicted and a golden colored picture of a camel is also visible. The government estimates that by the year 2024 there will be about 22 lakh camels in Saudi Arabia. Gradually all these camels will be linked to this new passport system.
Why was a camel passport needed?
The history of camels in Arab countries is thousands of years old. Camels were previously used for travel and transportation, as a support for life in the desert, and as a symbol of wealth and honor. Even today, camels are reared, bought and sold in Saudi Arabia and are sometimes included in competitions. There are even beauty competitions for camels, in which some camels are sold for crores of rupees. Seeing the rearing and trading of camels on such a large scale, the government felt the need for a system by which camels can be accurately identified, ownership can be proved, and health and vaccination information can be kept safe. From this need the concept of camel passport emerged.
What information will be there in the camel passport?
According to the government, the camel passport will act as a complete identity file. This will include the camel’s microchip number, passport number, camel’s name, date of birth, breed, color, sex, place of birth, owner information and name of the issuing authority, photographs taken from the right and left sides of the camel. Apart from this, there will also be a vaccination record in the passport, in which the information about all the vaccinations administered, the name of the veterinarian, signature and seal will be clearly recorded. This will make it easier to take immediate action in case of any illness.
What will be the benefits of this system?
The government says that the camel passport will have many big benefits. Like trust will increase in buying and selling of camels, disputes regarding ownership rights will reduce, national database of camels will be prepared, livestock management and monitoring will be strengthened, illegal activities and fraud will be stopped, camel rearing industry will become more modern and safe.
