The defense budget of the United States is approximately $886 billion in fiscal year 2024. This is the highest in the world. In comparison, China’s official defense budget is around $296 billion and Russia’s is around $109 billion. According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), America’s military spending is equal to or greater than the combined spending of many major countries.
Military capability and global presence
The US has 11 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, more than any other country. Its navy is considered the largest and most technologically advanced in the world. America has military bases or deployments in more than 70 countries. It has a permanent presence in Europe, Japan, South Korea and the Middle East. This gives it the ability to respond quickly at the global level.
The US Air Force has more than 13,000 military aircraft, including stealth fighters like the F-22 and F-35.

The US is estimated to have approximately 5,200 nuclear warheads (including deployed and stockpiled). Russia also has approximately the same number. America’s specialty is its nuclear triad – land-based ICBMs, submarine-launched ballistic missiles and bomber aircraft. America’s gross domestic product (GDP) will be about $26 trillion in 2023-24, which is the highest in the world. Its share in global GDP is about 24 percent. The US dollar is the world’s main reserve currency. A large part of international trade, oil transactions and foreign exchange reserves are in dollars. This gives America special power in the global financial system.
Can the world unite against America?
Theoretically, if China, Russia, the European Union, India and other big countries come together, their combined economy and military could be larger than America’s. But in practice such an alliance is highly impossible. Alliances like NATO are led by America. Countries like Canada, Britain, Japan, Germany and South Korea are its close allies. Not only this, many countries depend on America for their security. In such a situation, it is not practical to do so.
Statistics clearly show that America is on top in defense budget, global military presence, nuclear capability and economic strength. Theoretically, all the countries of the world can unite and change the balance, but in the current political situation such unity is almost impossible.
