The increasing tension between India and Pakistan now seems to be affecting the decisions of the biggest organizations of cricket. News is coming out that ICC is considering shifting the hosting of upcoming big tournaments out of India. This is said to include the Champions Trophy of 2029 and the ODI World Cup of 2031.
Why is there talk of changing the hosting?
In fact, there has been an agreement between India and Pakistan for a long time that both the teams will not play matches in each other’s country. This situation became more clear when India refused to tour Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. After this, new challenges arose before ICC regarding organizing tournaments.
Now the situation is such that if any big tournament is held in India, the Pakistan team is not ready to play there. At the same time, the possibility of the Indian team going to the tournament to be held in Pakistan is almost over. In such a situation, ICC has to face huge problems regarding match schedule, security and logistics.
Australia can become the new host
According to reports, if ICC decides to shift these tournaments out of India, then Australia can emerge as the biggest contender. Australia has already successfully organized the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh also increased ICC’s concern
The matter is not limited to just India and Pakistan. Recently, Bangladesh also refused to go to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup. When ICC refused to hold their matches in any other country, Bangladesh had to withdraw from the tournament.
ICC is making backup plan due to increasing tension
After these incidents, ICC is now preparing alternative plans for future big tournaments. In view of the ongoing differences between Asian countries, cricket administrators do not want any global event to face crisis. If the same situation continues between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, then big changes can be seen in the hosting of big tournaments like Cricket World Cup in the coming time. At present, the final decision can be taken by ICC in the coming time.
