If you often travel by flight, then you must be aware of the flight rules and regulations. In fact, often while booking a flight ticket, the same question arises in the mind of the passenger that when the money will be refunded after canceling the ticket. Many passengers complain that they have to wait for weeks for refund. Now the rules in this matter have been clarified. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has fixed the time limit by changing the rules related to ticket refund. In such a situation, let us tell you today how many days will it take for you to get a refund if your flight ticket is canceled and where to complain if it is too late.

Refund should be given within 14 working days

According to DGCA, if a passenger cancels the ticket, the airline will have to complete the refund process within 14 working days. Whether the ticket is booked directly from the airline’s website or through a travel agent or online portal, the responsibility for refund will be that of the airline itself. The agent is considered a representative of the airline, so the airline cannot escape responsibility by saying that the money is with the agent.

No charges for cancellation within 48 hours

DGCA has also implemented 48 hours look in option. If the flight date is sufficiently late as per the stipulated conditions and the ticket is canceled or changed within 48 hours of booking, no extra cancellation fee will be charged. However, in case the fare is higher on the new date, the difference in fare may have to be paid.

Where to complain if refund is too late?

If the refund is not received even after 14 working days, the passenger can lodge a written complaint with the customer care of the concerned airline. Even after this, if no solution is found, the matter can be taken to the complaint redressal mechanism of DGCA, where action can be taken against the airlines in case of violation of rules. Whereas, if the ticket is booked directly from the airline’s website and a typing error in the name is pointed out within 24 hours, then the airline cannot charge any extra fee for the correction in the name of that passenger. If the passenger or a family member registered on the same PNR is admitted to the hospital, the airline will have to give the option of giving a full refund or a credit shell. In other cases, refund will be decided on the basis of experts’ opinion.
