Such a painful incident has come to light in Nagarkarnool district of Telangana on Monday, which makes eyes moist after reading it. A 16-year-old student, who studies in inter first year at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), had returned home after giving the examination. As soon as he reached home, he started having severe stomach pain. The family got scared and immediately admitted him to the hospital.
Delivery took place in the bathroom of the scanning center
On the advice of doctors, the girl was taken to the scanning center. Something happened there which surprised everyone. The minor girl gave birth to a healthy newborn son in the bathroom of the scanning center itself.
Due to fear and shame, the newborn was thrown in the garbage.
According to media reports, out of fear, shame and fear of taunts from the society, the girl along with her mother threw the newborn baby in the dustbin there. An innocent child, who had just come into this world, was abandoned in the garbage heap. Seeing this scene, the staff present there were shocked. The staff immediately informed the police.
Mother and child admitted to hospital, condition stable
Police reached the spot and both mother and son were admitted to the hospital. At present the condition of both is said to be stable. This incident has become a topic of discussion in the entire area. This student studying in a government residential school like KGBV is from a poor family.
Police is investigating
Police are investigating paternity. Besides, possible abuse is also being investigated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO Act). This incident is not just a tragedy for one family but raises questions on the entire society and system. Today the slogan ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ is given. Girls are being given education in schools. But how much attention is being paid to sex education, mental health counseling and safety? If a girl hides her pregnancy in schools like KGBV, where daughters of poor families live, then it is clear that neither the school, nor the family, nor the society was alert.
Demand for regular health checkups and awareness
Local people say, ‘Our daughters are studying but are unaware of the truth of life.’ People are demanding that the government should make regular medical checkups, counseling and awareness programs mandatory in such schools. If steps are not taken in time, such incidents will continue to occur in future also.
