The recruitment examination for Police Sub Inspector (SI) and equivalent posts in Uttar Pradesh was held on 14 and 15 March 2026 in 75 districts across the state. 15 lakh candidates are appearing in this examination for about 45 hundred posts. However, on the very first day, a question from the Hindi section created controversy. The question was who is the person who changes according to the occasion. Four options were given, which were opportunist, honest, virtuous and scholar. In this, many leaders and people of the society raised objection regarding the use of the word ‘Pandit’.

Many leaders of the state called this question a serious issue. The government has ordered an immediate investigation into this entire matter. It was made clear that strict action will be taken against those responsible and the state government is serious in maintaining the dignity of all sections of the society. Who prepares UP SI exam paper

Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) conducts this examination and the final responsibility of the paper rests with the Board. Generally, there is a process to prepare question paper for any competitive examination.

1. Preparation of panel of experts – For the examination, subject experts, professors or experienced officers form panels for different subjects. These experts prepare question banks.

2. Review of questions (Moderation) – A moderation committee reviews the questions created by experts. This committee ensures that the questions are as per the prescribed syllabus, the language is clear and correct, the level of questions is balanced between easy, medium and difficult, and no question is controversial.

3. Final Selection and Seal – When all the sets are ready, the controller of examination or a high level committee of the board selects the final set and puts official seal on it.

4. Security and Printing – The selected papers are kept in a sealed box in a secure printing press. After this, strict security is followed while taking it to the examination centres.

5. Adherence to confidentiality – Every person associated with the examination has to take an oath of secrecy. There is a provision for legal action and jail in case of any kind of leak.

Impact of controversy and political reaction on the question on ‘Pandit’

Many leaders of the state called this question a serious issue. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state minister Abhijat Mishra wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding investigation and action against the culprits. At the same time, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Brajesh Pathak also expressed strong objection to this question on social media. He said that there should be no place for any derogatory word against any caste, community or tradition.
