Citing security reasons, the Central Government has decided to take the old Gymkhana Club of Delhi under its jurisdiction. This club is located on Safdarjung Road and is considered very close to the Prime Minister’s residence. Gymkhana Club is an old and prestigious club of the British era. Now the Urban Development Ministry has ordered the club administration to hand over the premises to the government by June 5, 2026.

According to the order issued, Land and Development Office i.e. L&DO will take official possession of this place on June 5. The team of technical section from the government will reach the spot and complete the process of taking possession and after this the area will be secured as per security. The order clearly states that on the scheduled date the club administration will have to peacefully hand over the place to the government representatives. If this is not done then action will be taken as per law and possession will be taken.

The main reason given was security reasons

This order has been issued by Deputy Land and Development Officer Suchit Goyal. It has also been said in the order that this decision has been taken after the approval of the competent authority. The government has not yet made public any detailed information on this decision, but security reasons are being said to be the main reason for this.

History of Delhi Gymkhana Club

Delhi Gymkhana Club is counted among the oldest and prestigious clubs of the country. It is located near the Prime Minister’s residence area on Safdarjung Road, New Delhi. For a long time, this club has a special identity among bureaucrats, army officers, industrialists and very influential people. This club was started in the year 1913 during the British rule with the name “Imperial Delhi Gymkhana Club”. After independence, its name was changed to Delhi Gymkhana Club. The government says that the 27.3 acres of land on which the club is built is necessary for national security, defense infrastructure and public interest.
