How does it work?
According to new research presented at the European Congress on Obesity 2026 held in Istanbul, Turkey, people who walked about 8,500 steps daily were seen to have less risk of gaining weight again. Researchers found that people who walked regularly during and after weight loss were more successful in keeping their weight under control for a long time. In the study, researchers from Italy and Lebanon analyzed many studies related to weight loss, walking habit and long-term weight management. In the beginning, the physical activity of both the groups was almost the same, but later the group which increased their daily walks had better control of their weight.
When should one take a walk?
Experts say that after losing weight, small habits like morning walk and evening walk make the biggest difference. Morning walk helps in speeding up the metabolism of the body and keeps the calorie burning process active throughout the day. A light walk in the evening is considered helpful in reducing stress, improving digestion and providing better sleep. Research also revealed that people who remained active continuously after losing weight were able to avoid gaining most of their weight again. Whereas people who did not adopt the habit of walking were more likely to gain weight back. Experts believe that the real secret of staying fit is not hidden in any heavy fitness plan, but in small and consistent habits followed daily.
