- IFSO to investigate cyber attacks on CBSE post-result portal.
- The board stopped lakhs of attacks, declared students’ data safe.
- The IFSO unit investigates complex and major cyber crimes.
After the recent cyber attacks on the CBSE Post-Result Services portal, the matter has reached the IFSO unit of Delhi Police. The Board has alleged that in the last few days, the portal has been continuously targeted, but due to security arrangements, none of the attacks have been successful. The data of the students has been said to be safe, but now the responsibility of identifying the people behind the attacks and finding out their motive has been handed over to the IFSO unit.
Actually, CBSE had started Post-Result Services Portal for students after the declaration of 12th board exam results. Through this portal, students can apply for services like verification of their marks, copy of answer sheets and re-evaluation. According to the board, attempts of cyber attacks on the portal started shortly after its launch. CBSE claimed that lakhs of suspicious requests and thousands of unauthorized access attempts were blocked by the security system in time. Despite this, the portal continued to function normally and students’ services were not affected.
After all, what is IFSO unit?
The full name of IFSO is Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations. It is a special cyber investigation unit working under the Special Cell of Delhi Police. This unit was formed to investigate such cases which are technically complex or which can affect a large number of people. The world of cyber crimes is changing rapidly. In such a situation, apart from the normal police investigation, expert technical teams are required. IFSO is known to handle similar cases.
Which cases does IFSO investigate?
IFSO is not limited to just website hacking. This unit also investigates cases related to data theft, online fraud, banking fraud, social media crimes, ransomware attacks, fake investment schemes and large cyber networks. When the scope of a cyber crime is large or there is a possibility of an organized gang behind it, then such cases are handed over to IFSO. This is the reason why CBSE has also sought help from this unit to investigate the alleged cyber attacks on its portal.

However, CBSE has made it clear that no student’s data has been leaked and the system is completely secure. Despite this, the board has taken the matter seriously and lodged a complaint with the police so that the truth behind the attacks can be revealed.
