Why Bone Density Decreases After 35 In Women: There is a change in the body of women which is neither visible from outside, nor causes any immediate pain nor does it suddenly affect the everyday life. But this change keeps increasing slowly inside. After the age of 35, the strength of bones starts decreasing. The bones which used to form rapidly and become strong during youth, now become slow in formation and break down a little faster. The most worrying thing is that all this happens silently and remains unnoticed for a long time.
What do experts say?
Dr Lalit Nemichand Bafna, an orthopedic expert at Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, told TOI that women after 30 generally do not think much about bone health, but this is where the real change begins. According to him, after 35, the body starts breaking bones faster than it builds them, due to which their density gradually decreases. This process is so slow that no clear signals are visible in the initial period.
What are the signs?
This is the reason why bone weakness is not felt in the beginning. Many times women feel completely normal. Its initial signs appear much later, such as a slight reduction in height, sometimes back pain or a bone fracture in a slight fall. According to a study, in many women in India, this problem is not detected until a fracture occurs, especially after the age of 40.
It is also important to understand this situation. It is not just weakening of bones, but there is a change in their structure. Bones start becoming hollow and light from inside, due to which they become weak in bearing pressure.
Why does this problem occur so often in women?
This problem is often seen in women because there are hormonal changes in the body. A hormone called estrogen helps in keeping bones strong, but with time its level starts decreasing. Apart from this, reasons like lack of calcium and vitamin D in diet, working while sitting for a long time, pregnancy and breastfeeding also affect the bones.

A special scan is done to check the bones, which is easy and painless, but most women get it done late because they think that it is needed only as they grow older. Whereas experts believe that with timely diagnosis and proper care, the risk of bone fracture can be reduced to a great extent. Although after 35 the bones do not form as fast as before, but with the right habits this decline can definitely be slowed down. Daily walking, light exercise, exposure to sunlight and eating a balanced diet are helpful in this.
