- UGC gives scholarship to single daughter and economically weak girl students.
If you or your daughter is a resident of Uttar Pradesh and is pursuing graduation or is going to take admission in college this year, then there are many government scholarship schemes available for you. The Central and Uttar Pradesh governments are jointly running such schemes, the objective of which is to help economically weaker girl students to continue higher education. Under these schemes, everything from reimbursement of tuition fees to financial assistance is given every month.
Girl students get maximum benefit from UP Post Matric Scholarship. This scheme is run through the Social Welfare, Backward Class Welfare and Minority Welfare Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. For this, it is necessary for the student to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Also, she should be pursuing graduation from a recognized college.
SC, ST, OBC and economically weaker general category (EWS) girl students can avail the benefit of this scheme. The annual income of the family should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh for General and OBC category and less than Rs 2 lakh for SC-ST category. Applications are made online on UP Scholarship Portal.
This scheme for technical education
AICTE Pragati Scholarship is a big support for girl students pursuing technical education. Under this scheme, financial assistance of up to Rs 50 thousand is given every year to meritorious girl students studying in engineering, architecture and other AICTE recognized technical graduate courses. Maximum two girl students from a family can take advantage of this scheme. Applications are made through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Special scheme for forces also
If a student’s mother or father has been martyred or retired while serving in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Assam Rifles or Police Department, then she can avail the benefit of Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS). Under this scheme, a scholarship of Rs 2,250 per month is given to eligible girl students doing graduation in the first year.
UGC also helps
Apart from this, UGC also runs special scholarship schemes for girl students. These include scholarships for single girl children and girl students from economically weak families. Applications for these schemes are also released from time to time on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
