So during their visit to Abu Dhabi in February 2024, PM Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had started linking India’s UPI with the UAE’s ‘AANI’ payment system and RuPay card with the ‘JAYWAN’ card there. During this, both the leaders also saw live transactions taking place by swiping each other’s cards.

The purpose of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to buy these goods abroad and make the payment himself is to show Indian tourists and the world that India’s fintech technologies like UPI and RuPay are now completely safe and accepted at the international level. In which countries does UPI and RuPay work?
Indian UPI and RuPay works in India including countries like France, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Qatar, Oman, South Korea. Although RuPay does not work in some parts of France, it does work in other parts.
