Causes Of Bleeding Gums In Rainy Season: If gums start bleeding while brushing during the rainy season or bad breath persists, then it should not be taken lightly. The reason for this may not only be the weather, but also some of our daily habits during this time. Things like favorite tea-pakodas, sweet snacks, drinking less water and negligence in oral hygiene can affect the health of gums.

Why does the problem arise?

According to Dr. Janil Parekh, Orthodontist, Lakshmi Dental Limited, monsoon does not directly cause gum disease or bad breath, but lifestyle changes during this season increase the risk of these problems. He says that during rainy days, people often consume more sweet snacks and drinks, drink less water and do not pay as much attention to oral hygiene as before. Due to this, plaque starts accumulating on the teeth and bacteria grow rapidly, due to which the possibility of swelling in the gums and bad breath increases.

Which problem occurs the most?

Dr. Parekh explains that if plaque is not removed by regular brushing and cleaning between the teeth, then problems like swelling of gums, cavity and persistent bad breath can occur. During the rainy season, more patients approach the dentist with complaints like bleeding gums, swelling, plaque accumulation, tooth sensitivity and early gum disease. He says that the good thing is that with timely treatment and proper care, these problems can be prevented from increasing. Professional cleaning, maintaining proper daily oral hygiene and regular dental checkups help protect the gums from serious disease.

Are problems caused only by food?

According to experts, persistent bad breath is not just due to food. This can also be an early sign of poor gum health. When plaque accumulates along the gum lines, bacteria break down trapped food particles and form sulfur compounds, which cause bad breath. If it is ignored, this problem can later take the form of serious gum disease.

Which people are most at risk?

This risk is higher in some people. People who do not have good oral hygiene, who have diabetes, who smoke or consume tobacco or who have braces on their teeth, are more likely to suffer from gum infection. Because of braces, food and plaque easily get stuck in the teeth, so such people should pay more attention to cleanliness. Bleeding from the gums while brushing, swelling or redness in the gums, persistent bad breath, pain in the gums, receding gums or feeling of loose teeth are signs which should not be ignored. By getting checked in time, damage to the gums and the bone that supports them can be prevented.
