UTU Paper Leak: Amidst the ongoing protests by students regarding paper leak at Jantar Mantar in the capital Delhi, news of another paper leak has come to light in Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun has canceled two semester examinations after two engineering papers were leaked. This decision has been taken after the initial investigation of the university revealed alleged irregularities in the confidentiality of the question paper. In this case, an FIR has been registered against an assistant professor, while the investigation of the entire incident is going on.
News of paper leak amid ongoing protests in Delhi
This news of paper leak from Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University has come to light at a time when students are protesting against paper leak across the country including the capital Delhi. Students across the country are continuously raising questions on the government regarding paper leak incidents. This matter of the students was not settled, meanwhile now the news of this paper leak has come out from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, due to which this matter has become bigger.

Investigation committee formed after complaint
The matter started with a complaint regarding the examination of Machine Learning for Internet of Things. After receiving the complaint, the university constituted a high-level inquiry committee on the instructions of the Vice-Chancellor. Besides, Shivalik College of Engineering, Dehradun also conducted an internal inquiry at its level. Investigation revealed that the external expert who prepared the question paper, Ashish Kumar Gupta, assistant professor of Shivalik College of Engineering, had allegedly sent the same questions to the students before the examination through the college’s internal portal and a WhatsApp group.
Claim of matching 90 percent questions
Initial investigation by the university has revealed that about 90 percent of the questions asked in the Machine Learning for Internet of Things exam were similar to the questions that were shared in the WhatsApp group of students before the exam. The inquiry committee considered this a serious violation of the confidentiality and fairness of the examination system. During the investigation, it was also revealed that there is a possibility of a similar error in the question paper of Electromagnetic Field Theory. Both the question papers were prepared by the same teacher, after which the university has decided to cancel both the examinations with immediate effect.
FIR against professor and 7 years ban
The university has lodged an FIR against the accused assistant professor Ashish Kumar Gupta. Also, with immediate effect, he has been banned from performing any examination related responsibility of the university for the next 7 years. Issuing a strict warning to Shivalik College of Engineering in the university, it has said that the institute should further strengthen the monitoring system at its level and ensure that the confidentiality of the examination is not compromised in future.
What did the Vice Chancellor say?
University Vice-Chancellor Tripta Thakur has said that as soon as information regarding the paper was received, the university immediately started investigation. Based on the facts revealed in the investigation, both the examinations have been cancelled. He said that the credibility of the examination system and the interest of the students is the top priority for the university. After completion of the investigation, strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty as per rules. The university has instructed all its affiliated colleges to immediately send information related to cancellation and re-examination to the students, so that they get enough time to prepare, and all institutions have been asked to publish the order on their websites.
