Dengue Virus: As much as there is pleasure in rain, the outbreak of mosquitoes also spreads rapidly in this season, due to which the cases of serious diseases like dengue start increasing across the country. If we look at the statistics, the risk of dengue has increased significantly in the last few years. Now a surprising thing has come to light in a recent study by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research).

This study has revealed that all four strains of dengue i.e. DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4 have become active simultaneously in the country. The special thing is that among these, DENV-2 is still the most spreading strain, while DENV-3 is also increasing rapidly in many states. Not only this, infection of two strains was found simultaneously in many patients. In such a situation, doctors say that when so many strains become active at the same time, it becomes difficult to both identify and treat the disease.

Why is dengue becoming dangerous again and again?

The biggest reason behind this is accumulation of water at many places during the rains. Mosquitoes find the right place to breed in the accumulated rain water. Apart from this, carelessness among people regarding cleanliness, accumulation of water in coolers, pots and tires around the houses also promotes mosquitoes. This is the reason why dengue cases are continuously increasing across the country.

The matter is not limited to this, the most worrying thing is that even after recovering from one strain, the body is not protected from the other three strains. That means a person can get dengue up to four times in his life. What is even more dangerous is that if dengue is caused by a different strain the second time, its condition becomes more serious. For this reason, experts are continuously advising to remain alert regarding this situation. Not only this, India is among the top countries in the world where the maximum number of dengue cases are reported. This is the reason why this study has attracted everyone’s attention.

How effective is the new dengue vaccine on which strain?

Dengue vaccine Qdenga has been approved in India, which is designed to protect against all four strains. According to the company, one year after the second dose, this vaccine protects against dengue by about 80 percent, and not only this, it protects 90 percent of the patients from being admitted to the hospital. However, it also faces a challenge that its effect is not the same on every strain. According to the study, this vaccine is most effective against DENV-2, because the cases of this strain were increasing very rapidly. Therefore, the vaccine has been developed on its basis, whereas against the other three strains, its effect is more visible only in those people who have had dengue before.
