India china meeting: Representatives of India and China held a review meeting on several issues including the current status, Mansarovar Yatra on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Tuesday (25 March 2025). In this meeting, there was a discussion on starting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as soon as possible. In the year 2020, it was banned due to increased tension on the border. The main issue of this meeting was Mansarovar Yatra. Recently, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has agreed to resume this year, but its methods are still yet to be decided.
The discussion took place during the 33rd meeting of the Working Machine (WMCC) for consultation and coordination on India-China border affairs. The Indian delegation was led by Gauranglal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese delegation was led by Hong Leiang, Director General of the Department of Border and Ocean Affairs, the Ministry of Chinese Foreign Affairs.
Review on the status of LAC
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the WMCC met in a positive and creative environment and the two sides made a comprehensive review of the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The statement said, “Both sides agreed to work together to make concrete preparations for the next meeting of Special Representatives (SR), which will be held in India at the end of this year.”
Discussion on starting Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra
The Ministry of External Affairs also said, “They also discussed the resumption of border cooperation and exchange at the earliest, including the rivers across the border and the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra.” The leader of the Indian delegation also met with a courtesy of Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei. Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt visited Beijing on 26-27 January for a meeting of Foreign Secretary-Up Foreign Minister Tantra between the two countries. After this, both countries announced their decision to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025.
