US Trade Policy: US President Donald Trump made an important announcement on the social media platform on Sunday (July 07, 2025). He informed that agreements and letters related to tariffs (fees) with various countries of America will be implemented today from July 7.

Trump wrote in the post, “I am very happy to declare that tariff letters and agreements in the United States, along with various countries of the world, will be sent and implemented on Monday, July 7, at 12 noon (Eastern Time).”

What does this decision of Trump mean?

It is clear from this decision of the US President that the Trump administration is going to strengthen its hold on international trade. Although it has not been clarified with which countries will be compromised or which products will apply to the tariffs, it is believed to have an impact on China, European Union and other major trading partners.

Donald Trump made this announcement in April

President Donald Trump announced in April a few months ago that many countries will now be imposed additional tax with 10% base tariff, which can be up to 50% in some cases. However, before implementing these more tariffs, the Trump administration gave 90 days time so that the scope of talks would remain. This deferment is now ending on 9 July.

Suspense still on Indo-US trade deal

No trade agreement has been reached between America and India so far. Despite the constant pressure by the Trump administration, the talks between the two countries have not reached any conclusion.

At the same time, diplomats of the European Union (EU) say that they too have not been able to reach any final agreement with America. Meanwhile, the Trump government has announced to impose 26 percent mutual tariff on India. Trump has made it clear that the countries who have already signed the trade letters sent to America will have to pay the tariff.

What is the Indo-US trade agreement stuck on?

India wants more access to the US market for its textile, leather and shoe industries in this deal. On the other hand, the US wants India to open its agriculture and dairy sector for American companies.
