IND vs Eng Oval Test: The fifth and last match of the current Test series between India and England will be played at Kennington Oval from 31 July. This is the same ground where in 2021, in 2021, the Indian team registered a historic victory by defeating England by 157 runs under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Even though India will not get Jasprit Bumrah’s services in the last Test in the current series, the confidence of that memorable victory of Oval will definitely inspire Team India.
Rohit, Virat and Shardul’s best performance
India’s first innings in that Test played in 2021 was reduced to 191 runs. In this innings, Virat Kohli and Shardul Thakur had scored half -centuries and brought the team to a fighting total. In response, England had taken a lead of 99 runs by scoring 290 runs, but after this Rohit Sharma’s captaincy innings overturned the match.
Rohit Sharma played a brilliant century of 127 runs in the second innings, which was his first Test century in that series. Apart from him, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur also contributed significantly, which scored 466 runs in their second innings and gave England a big target of 368 runs.
The match dice was overturned after lunch
England chased the target, scoring 131 runs for 2 wickets till lunch on the fifth day and the match was seen on par, but after lunch, the Indian bowlers did not let the England batsmen stand while changing the gear.
Ravindra Jadeja gave India a big success by dismissing opener Haseeb Hameed (63 runs, 193 balls). After this, England’s innings was reduced to 210 runs and India won this match by 157 runs.
Now new captain, new challenge
This time India will land on the field under the captaincy of Shubman Gill and currently India is behind 1-2 in this series. The team will try to defeat England again at the Oval and equal the series 2-2. Of course, Jaspreet Bumrah’s absence is a big setback for the team, but the memories of the victory recorded on this ground four years ago can increase India’s confidence.
