ODI World Cup 2007 may have been disappointing for the Indian team, but Bermuda cricketer Dwayne Leverock had caught the attention of the whole world with one of his amazing catches. On March 19, 2007, in the match against India, Leverock took a brilliant one-handed catch of Robin Uthappa by diving in the slip. This catch is still counted among the best catches in World Cup history. Dwayne Leverock, weighing about 127 kg, was one of the heaviest players in international cricket at that time, but his agility surprised everyone. Born in Bermuda on July 14, 1971, Leverock is celebrating his 55th birthday today.
After that catch, commentator David Lloyd’s famous line, “The big man, the fridge has opened.” It is still remembered among cricket fans. Leverock’s enthusiastic celebration after taking the catch also became very famous and he came into the headlines overnight. In the same match against India, Leverock also took the wicket of Yuvraj Singh. Although he spent 96 runs in his 10 overs. India won that match by 257 runs, but despite this, Team India was out of the group stage, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh made it to the Super-8.
Dwayne Leverock took 34 wickets in 32 ODI matches for Bermuda. Apart from this, he also played 2 T20 International matches, although he did not get any wicket in this format. During his playing days, fellow players used to call him ‘Slugo’.

Where is Dwayne Leverock now?
After retiring from cricket in April 2009, Dwayne Laverock is working as a prison officer (jailer) in Bermuda. Along with this, he also does part-time cricket commentary from time to time. Even today he is known as a popular sports personality in Bermuda.
