A painful accident occurred during Ganpati immersion in Shahapur, Thane, Maharashtra. Five people drowned in water at Ganesh Ghat of Bharani river in Asngaon Mundewadi here. Two of these people have been taken out safely.
Ramnath Ghare (24) and Bhagwan Wagh (36) have been immediately admitted to Upazila Hospital in Shahapur. At the same time, the dead body of Pratik Munde has been recovered by the life -saving team. While the search for two others is still going on.
Due to darkness, there is a problem in rescue operation. Shahapur police and life-saving teams are present at the scene and relief work is going on continuously.
On the last day of the 10-day Ganpati festival in Mumbai, on Saturday (September 6), people flocked on the streets with dhol-tashe to immerse the idols of Lord Ganesha and blowing gulal to immerse the idols of Lord Ganesha.
More than 2100 statues immersed in Mumbai
Officials said that till 3 pm, more than 2,100 Ganpati statues were immersed in various reservoirs of Mumbai. Statues were seen sitting on road dividers, buildings’ roofs, balconies, trees and pillars to get a glimpse during the grand closing ceremony while carrying the city beaches and other reservoirs.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 2,198 Ganpati statues were included till 3 pm, including 59 public divisions (local community groups) and 87 Goddess statues, immersed in artificial reservoirs and artificial ponds built by the municipal bodies.
No untoward incident in Mumbai- BMC
The journey in Lalbagh, famous for the prestigious Ganpati mandals in Central Mumbai, started with statues of Tejukaya, Ganesh Gali and many other mandals. A BMC official said that no untoward incident was reported during the immersion process.
