Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday (September 11, 2025) claimed that political campaigns were conducted against him on social media amidst opposition to the introduction of ethanol-free fuel from the government.
Addressing the 65th annual conference of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIYAM) in Delhi, Gadkari said, “E20 petrol, in which 20 percent ethanol is mixed with traditional fuel, was exaggerated against it.”
Paid campaign against Gadkari on social media
He insisted, ‘The fuel from ethanol is safe and it has also been approved by the train manufacturer companies. Also, ARAI and Supreme Court have given clarity on the E20 program. Alleging that he said that a paid campaign was launched against me on social media, so do not pay attention to it.
In fact, while hearing a petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the demand for ban on the approval of the E20 in fuel and the demand for mandatory at the petrol pumps, the court dismissed these petitions, after which the legal hurdle facing the government was removed.
Ethanol mixture will reduce fuel emissions
At the same time, vehicle making companies and fuel suppliers also said that the warranty of vehicles designed for E20 will be valid. Also, only the use of fuel reduces the mileage of vehicles and it damages the old wisdom. Industry experts and some service garages also reported complaints from the owners of the model before 2023.
The government says that the ethanol mixture will reduce oil imports, reduce emissions and increase farmers’ income. The government was criticized on social media last week for the compulsory sales of E20 petrol.
