On the first day of ‘Gen-Z’ protests in Nepal on September 8, 2025, 19 people were killed in an automatic weapons firing. Former Prime Minister KP Oli has made a big claim on this. On Friday (September 19, 2025), he said that the police had neither automatic weapons nor his government had given any order to shoot directly at the protesters.
He said that the protesters should be investigated for the use of automated weapons. KP Oli resigned from the post of Prime Minister on 9 September after violent protests in Nepal. The former Prime Minister claimed that the youth died in the violence by conspirators infiltrating during the protests.
72 people killed in ‘Gen-Z’ protests
He said that such a large number of people were not killed in the same day in the last movements. According to the police, at least 72 people have been confirmed in ‘Gen-Z’ protests. Those killed are also included in the Bhatbhatni Supermarket burnt by the crowd who were found dead.
KP Oli says that during violent protests, the reason behind the arson in the offices of the government’s Chief Administrative Center, Singh Darbar, Parliamentary Building, Supreme Court Bhawan and other court complexes, business establishments, political parties is a conspiracy behind the arson.
Former Prime Minister’s house in the grip of arson
The house of Oli located in Balkot area of Bhaktapur, about four kilometers from Kathmandu, was also hit by arson. Apart from this, the houses of other former Prime Ministers including Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushp Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda and Jhalnath Khanal were also targeted.
KP Oli was under the security of Nepal Army after violent protests. He left the security of the army on Thursday and went to live in a rented house in Gundu area of Bhaktapur, about 12 km from Kathmandu.
Parliamentary election on this date in Nepal
Oli is facing allegations of taking Nepal towards the downfall in his government. Critics say that during his prime ministership, Oli has always tried to present the image that the country is on the path of prosperity, although many scams came out during this period.
After Oli’s resignation, an interim government has been formed in Nepal under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of holding parliamentary elections within six months. The date of March 5 has been set for the upcoming elections of the House of Representatives.
